FISIP UNAIR Political Science Department Invite Teachers in Surabaya to Become an Agent of Change in National Seminar

Surabaya - Public Relations | FISIP UNAIR Political Science Department held a community service seminar entitled "Strengthening Nationalism Awareness" on Friday (25/08). The event, that was attended by more than 100 high school teachers in Surabaya, is the result of cooperation between the Department of Political Science of FISIP UNAIR and the East Java Province Education State Office. The seminar invited Saiful Rachman, MM., M.Pd, the Head of East Java Province Education State Office, and lecturer of FISIP UNAIR Department of Anthropology, Drs. Bambang Budiono, M.S., M.Sosio.

Located in Adi Sukadana Room of FISIP UNAIR, the event was opened by Dr. Dwi Windyastuti Budi H, Dra., M.A as the chairwoman of the event and also a lecturer of Political Science Department. The material presenter in the seminar was about teacher's strategic position in matters of nation's nobility, where the teacher in this case is considered to have a crucial role to become an agent of change. "By becoming an agent of change, teachers can transmit exemplary values ??to their students, and these exemplary values ??can be a way out for radical movements that are on the rise," Saiful explained.

Furthermore, Saiful also explained the discourse of new strategies in improving the quality of education that will be implemented in the near future. These strategies include renewal of facilities to foster a sense of civic spirit, development of Taruna high school for character education, and leadership classes as new innovations. This leadership class aims for improving student leadership skills.

The seminar was held as one of the routine agenda of the public service program of the Political Science Department of FISIP UNAIR to address changing forms of tolerance, pluralism, and religion issues. Hari Fitrianto, S.IP., M.IP, vice chairman of the event, said that this seminar can also be considered as the responsibility of lecturers of Political Department and high school teachers in Surabaya. "What I hope from this event is that in the future we can take care of our sense of nationalism together. Hopefully through this event, a new strategy can be generated to ground the Pancasila," he concluded. (AN/UC/HLD)
